Welcome to Maungatapere
Known as the ‘meeting place beneath the mountain’, Maungatapere is a community hub situated at the crossroads of State Highways 14 and 15.
Rich in both Māori and Pākehā history, our region stretches up the Mangakahia Valley, out to Tangiteroria, down Otaika Valley and across to Kara and Kokopu.
It is not just the beautiful landscapes of Maungatapere, nor the rich history and culture, or strong horticultural and farming industries that make Maungatapere a great place to be – our people make this place what it is.
We offer a diverse range of businesses, community groups, visitor attractions and rural experiences and are the gateway between the Whangārei, Kaipara and Far North regions.
