Our Community

While we may be a small population, we have a big community spirit. Our village offers a range of community groups and facilities that help make Maungatapere a great place to live and play.

Whatever your passion, Maungatapere offers the perfect lifestyle fit. Our population is big enough to support ground-breaking ambitions and small enough for genuine connection.

Our community is growing, you can help us flourish.

Whether you’re looking for a sports group, a place to have an event, or a way to meet new people, we have brought all our incredible community groups and facilities into one place - so you can easily find what it is you’re looking for

Nau mai haere mai. Welcome, come on in…

Pātaka Kai, Community Food Pantry

There's a Pātaka Kai outside the Office Cafe, Corner Mangakahia Road & SH14.

This is a  Community Food Pantry where you can take what you need and leave what you can. Any excess orchard or garden supplies are always welcomed.

It belongs to all of us, so we all should look after it.  Just keep an eye on it and keep it tidy,  The pātaka is only for food - non perishables, fruit & veges from your gardens. Please don’t leave any big boxes or rubbish behind.

Lilliput Libraries
There are three community Lilliput Libraries

Outside the Office Cafe, corner SH14 & 14,
Kara Free Mini Library, 68 Kara Road
78 Otuhi Road, Weki Valley.

The books are free for anyone to take away. You don’t have to become a member of Lilliput Libraries, you don’t need to return the books. We encourage you to take a book now, return or donate one later.

Community Noticeboard
There's a Community Noticeboard on the forecourt of the Maungatapere GAS station.

List your Community Group

If you are part of a community group or facility that isn’t listed you can add your group using our sign-up form - even better, it’s free!

We have a calendar of events for what’s going on locally, so if you’re running an event locally, we’d love to include it. Register your event here

We try hard to keep things up to date, but we’re only human. So if your group’s contact details or information is out of date, please email us and let us know.
