April 2026Mountain Trust Planting Days
The Mountain Trust invites community members to take part in regular volunteer planting sessions around the mountain. These will be held every Tuesday from 4:30pm to 5:30pm (weather permitting). Please meet at the nursery on State Highway 14, opposite Watrous Downs. In addition, several larger revegetation planting days are scheduled as follows:
Participants are asked to bring a spade, gloves, sturdy footwear, and a water bottle. A shared bite to eat is usually enjoyed afterwards, kindly hosted by the landowner. Please mark these dates in your calendar—we look forward to seeing members of the community there. ![]()
Petition for Public TransportWe’re working on something that could make a real difference for our Maungatapere community Right now, the bus service stops at Maunu Museum — leaving many of us without a reliable, affordable way to get into town. With rising fuel costs, this is becoming harder for families, workers, and our elderly residents. We’ve started a petition to ask Northland regional Council to extend the bus route into Maungatapere village. If you think this would benefit our community, please take a moment to sign and share Every signature helps show there’s real demand for this ![]() New CCTV CamerasOur community have been granted funding to support our new CCTV installation at the dairy factory. This camera is now up and operating with number plate recognition and will help to enhance public safety, deter crime, and support Police investigations inthe Maungatapere area. A massive thank you to the Mankahaia Lions club for donating a whopping $5000 towards the installation for this project
